Action & Accountability: Two Keys to Leadership Greatness

  • By Mike Phillips
  • In The Leadership Toolkit

In the realm of personal and professional development, these two concepts… taking action and accepting accountability stand paramount. Not merely buzzwords, they represent the tangible steps one must undertake to impact change.

In this episode of “The Leadership Toolkit” our dynamic duo – Mike Phillips, renowned leadership coach, and Mike Ashie, highly acclaimed leadership consultant and genius behind the YouTube channel  @LeadershipwithMike  are both passionate about building powerful leaders and teams. We get into action, accountability, and communication, and just have an overall great discussion on what leadership is.

Early on Mike Ashie dives into the realm of ‘Taking Action.’ First take action for yourself as a leader and then learn how to move from passive strategies to active implementation, and foster a culture of decisiveness in your team. Taking action, for instance, is the manifestation of intent. It’s the bridge that transforms abstract ideas into concrete realities. Without this forward momentum, ideas stagnate, potential wanes and progress is stymied.

We have a lot of discussion on the concept of ‘Accountability.’ They emphasize the significance of holding yourself and others responsible for actions and decisions, effectively fostering trust and commitment within your teams.

At one point Mike breaks down accountability like this.

  1. Tell people the plan and expectations.
  2. Get buy-in and agreement (manage by agreement)
  3. Be clear on the consequence if whatever the thing is doesn’t get done.

Mike and Mike discuss the art of communicating effectively with your team. We remind the audience that it isn’t what you say, or even how you say it, but how the person you are communicating with receives it. By having effective communication it ensures that actions are initiated and directed purposefully. Communication allows for honing in on objectives with laser precision. It provides the roadmap, guiding each step toward the desired outcome. There are secrets of both listening and expressing yourself clearly, ensuring that no messages get lost in translation.

This was a great conversation and a really fun episode to make! Check out the full video below.
